Resolving a Long-Term Roof Leak with a Complete Slate Roof Upgrade
A Brand New Slate Roof & Bespoke Leadwork Installed to completion
This roofing project was completed in the village of Oakhill, located on the outskirts of Shepton Mallet, where the Mendip Proofing team carried out a complete new slate roof installation along with bespoke leadwork repairs and upgrades.
The customer contacted us after experiencing ongoing roof leaks for more than four years. The issue had originally been caused by incorrect installation work carried out by a previous builder, where insufficient coverage had been provided on the lead soakers and roofing felt. During periods of heavy wind and rain, water was being forced beneath the roof covering and into the property, causing persistent problems that previous repairs had failed to resolve.
Following a full roof inspection of the property outside Shepton Mallet, our team recommended a complete re-roof solution to permanently eliminate the leak and improve the long-term performance of the roof system.

High Quality Spanish Slates
As part of this roofing project, we installed a brand-new slate roof using high-quality Spanish slates chosen specifically to match a planned future porch extension at the front of the property. This the appearance of the building looked consistent and allowed the homeowner to future-proof the look of the property for later building works.
To bring the roof up to modern standards, the installation included new 5U eaves protection, 800mm rafter roll-out trays, a breathable Tyvek Supro membrane, and 2×1 gold treated battens suitable for slate fixing in accordance with current British Standards.
Due to the property’s exposure to high winds, we also carried out specialist bespoke leadwork using Code 5 lead over flashings to provide enhanced durability and weather resistance in vulnerable areas of the roof.
The completed roofing system now provides the property with long-term protection, improved ventilation & a fully watertight finish. Most importantly, the long-standing leak issue has been fully resolved.
The customer was extremely pleased with the finished result and she’s since booked additional future projects with our team, along with ongoing yearly gutter maintenance services.
