Low-Pitch Kitchen Extension Roof Replacement in Walton, Somerset
Replacing an incorrectly specified roof covering with low-pitch concrete tiles, upgraded leadwork, insulation and new deep-flow guttering
Correcting an Unsuitable Low-Pitch Roof in Walton
This roofing project was completed on a rear kitchen extension at a property in Walton, Somerset, where our team was brought in to rectify problems with the existing roof covering.
The extension has a particularly low roof pitch of approximately 13 degrees. During our assessment, it became clear that the tiles previously installed on the roof were not suitable for use at such a shallow pitch. This meant that simply carrying out isolated repairs would not address the underlying issue: the roof covering itself needed to be correctly specified for the property.
Low-pitch roofs require careful consideration when it comes to tile selection and weatherproofing, as products designed for steeper roofs may not provide the protection required when installed below their recommended minimum pitch.
Following our inspection, we recommended a full new roof: fully stripping and restoring the extension roof using a concrete tile system suitable for pitches as low as 12.5 degrees, alongside improvements to the leadwork, insulation and rainwater drainage.
New Low-Pitch Concrete Tiles, Leadwork & Guttering
To provide a long-term solution, the existing roof covering was removed and the roof prepared for the installation of the new low-pitch system.
New concrete roof tiles suitable for installation down to 12.5 degrees were fitted across the extension, making them appropriate for the existing 13-degree pitch. This allowed us to retain the existing roof structure while providing a covering specifically designed to perform at this lower angle.
The existing leadwork was also fully replaced and upgraded, ensuring the adjoining areas were correctly covered and weatherproofed. New insulation was incorporated as part of the works, alongside new deep-flow guttering to improve the handling of rainwater from the roof.
With the correct tiles and detailing now in place, the extension has been fully restored with a roofing system suited to the design of the property. The finished roof is properly weatherproofed, neatly detailed and back to looking and performing as it should.

From the Founder & Director:
“Low-pitch roofs are one of those areas where getting the specification right from the start is really important. In this case, the existing tiles simply weren’t designed to be installed at a 13-degree pitch, so repairing individual areas wouldn’t have addressed the real problem.
We stripped the roof back and replaced it with a concrete tile designed to work down to 12.5 degrees, while also renewing the leadwork, improving the insulation and installing new deep-flow guttering. It means the customer now has a complete roofing system that’s actually suited to the property and built to provide long-term protection.”
